“Ya İstiklal Ya Ölüm” set to premiere on 16 March 2020 on TRT1

The new TRT1 mini series “Ya İstiklal Ya Ölüm” is scheduled to premiere on Monday 16 March 2020; which is the 100th anniversary of the declaration of allied forces lead by Sir George Milne to prevent the spread of Turkish nationalism.

The series will primarily concentrate around the critical 6 week period between the occupation of Istanbul and the re-establishment of the Meclis-i Mebûsan in Istanbul and its reopening in Ankara.

During the 6 week period consisting of 6 episodes; the series will describe the efforts of reaching Ankara in secret and in very dangerous ways; showing the love of the motherland, at the expense of the lives of the soldiers. The struggles of being able to carry arms from Istanbul to the National Struggle movement; and the struggle of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to establish the new Assembly. Emphasis will also be on those who opposed the occupation as well.

The final episode will air on 23 April 2020 which will be the 100th anniversary of the establishments of National Assembly of Turkey was founded in 23 April 1920. The founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk also declared this day Children’s Day as well, emphasizing that they are successors for the future of Turkey.

The mini series “Ya İstiklal Ya Ölüm” screenplay writer is Funda Çetin, and will be produced by Kirli Kedi Productions under the direction of Yasin Uslu known for his experience in directing of historical dramas.

The mini series which started production on 16 January 2020 encompasses a very large cast and crew including thousand of both local and international performers primarily starring notables such as Birkan Sokullu, İlker Kızmaz, Dolunay Soysert, Osman Sonant, Melis Sezen, Hilmicem İntepe, Rıza Kocaoğlu, Umut Karadağ, Ushan Çakır, Altan Erkekli, Mehmet Özgür, Serkan Ercan and many others.

Many of the scenes were shot on actual locations, with actual vehicles used during this time period, as well as weapons, costumes and design sets that will be used to reflect the period effectively and promises to have the total attention of the audience.
